Quality Checking - the Why, the How and the Way to get things happening

Thank you to Learning Disability England and Virginia Fenton for an insightful webinar on Quality Checking - the Why, the How and the Way to get things happening.

Over 70 people with lived experience of support, supporters, providers and care staff came together to share ideas, experiences and suggestions on how to quality assess or check, in the most person centred effective way.

I joined
Pro-Active Community members Justin and Richard with keyworker Ruth in sharing experiences of quality checking over the past years.

“Start small but start” was a key message from Quality Assessor Elizabeth Felton

Great idea suggested to use audio visual assessments for those who would prefer, and interesting feedback how going with a manager can actually hinder responses from staff or supported people, but going with a keyworker or trusted staff member opened up more communication options and better open, honest conversations.

Lovely to see Emma Jane from
Active Prospects UK and hear how her experiences of checking have created new opportunities for her, building confidence by visiting new people and places.

Support worker Ruth, also from Active Prospects said “..this has been excellent, helpful and informative, it’s shown me ways we can work with quality checkers by being supporters or co-checkers, but they lead in the way best for their communication needs”

“I think it would be helpful for more support workers to learn about the quality checker system and be involved where possible”

Looking forward to working with people we support and
Angella Chimenya-Garande to maybe review how checks are done to create the most appropriate checking for checkers and those being checked!
