Food Sustainability - how can we all do our part?

Michael joined an invited audience in the Rik Medlick main Lecture Hall at University of Surrey and what a fascinating evening listening to the research findings from so many speakers from across those exploring food sustainability.

This inaurgural hashtag#howonearth lecture series opened by Tim Dunne was such an eye opener and opportunity for discussion amongst so many experts in their field.

“This was very interesting, I’ve never been in a lecture room like this, listening to these people, I’m glad I came tonight”

Hearing from Dr Maria Adams about the women’s prison food budgets being only £2.70 per person per day, the plant to plate idea being encouraged, reviewing the concerns the food offered was often filling not nutritious.

Lorenzo Fioramonti and Roberta Sonnino, amongst other guest speakers, spoke about the importance of a radical need for review, action and a collaboration of government and all of us to make change.

Bringing to government the need for more vitamin D during the winter months and already reporting a 20% reduction in our salt intake, these successes must be celebrated and show what can be achieved over time.

We all have to come together, globally to take responsibility for what is to come.

Very interesting evening - lots to think about and how can members help shape change.
