Sharing success!
Pro Active Community were delighted to be joining the self advocates at Learning Disability England to share an update on the Disability Taxi Charter.
Everyone agreed with the approach Pro-Active Community members have taken to ask conference delegates, members and people at the Surrey People’s Group with the help of Amanda Aldridge, to feedback through a survey.
People shared their frustrations, disappointments, and anger at being so badly treated, let down or treated with a lack of understanding or respect.
We spoke about sunflower lanyards and the need to keep that awareness in society for those who choose to wear them, the need for transport providers to be aware of visual or hearing impairments and the need to treat each individual as an individual.
So positive to have representatives from Grace Eyre, Dimensions, Camphill Village Trust, Salvation Army, Mencap and several supported self advocates who talked openly about the call to action being a great chance for them to approach their regional taxi firms too.
Great to hear one member saying how brilliantly Manchester Airport responded to his sunflower lanyard,
“They were so kind and patient and they helped me as they saw my sunflower lanyard showed I needed them to be nice to me”
Not often a positive shout out is shared so we wanted to put that right!
So important to be working together with LDE in shaping the Transport Chapter of Good Lives Manifesto.
A really interactive and question loaded meeting - thank you so much to Rachael Hall at LDE for excellent facilitation and for inviting Pro-Active Community members to present today.
“Everyone providing a service should have learning disability and autism awareness training, people don’t always understand what help I might need”
