Cooking healthy meals
Session 3 of SEN adult cookery at East Surrey College was another opportunity for the participants from Pro Active Community and Active Prospects to prepare a meal from scratch, taking them to some great traditional English food as the tour around the world of all things food continues
Thank you to Nicola Hoad for working with all those involved to co-produce this course with easier to read recipes and cooking instruction, enabling everyone to cook a healthy meal with good company and lot of enjoyment.
“I’ve made this before but this tastes much better”
“I didn’t know it was this easy, I buy this in a ready meal usually, I can make it now”
We talked about how hard it is when recipes say ‘a dash’ ‘a splash’ ‘a dollop’ ‘a knob of’ rather than a measurement. It’s not the same for everyone so it can taste different or not work out so well.
This course continues to build confidence, enables mistakes to be learning opportunities, and not a reason to give up.
💚Combining this with mental health awareness week, we talked about the importance of eating well and how good food is an important part our mental health, socialising is a key chance to talk concerns or worries through, and how much enjoyment was shared by all coming together to eat.
